If you haven’t yet decided where to go for a day trip in Montenegro, we highly recommend the Perast – Our Lady of the Rocks tour. Perast is one of the ancient towns of the Bay of Kotor, widely known for its charming beauty, rich history, and stunning architecture.
The journey begins in Kotor, where we drive along the coast for about 20–25 minutes to reach Perast. Your first encounter with this picturesque town will fill you with a sense of peace and serenity as you admire its colorful landscapes. Nestled by the sea and protected on all sides by the Kotor hills, beneath the slopes of St. Elijah Hill, Perast captures the hearts of all travelers.
This tour is ideal for those seeking a quieter, more intimate experience, away from the crowds of Montenegro’s larger tourist towns.
Start your exploration at the central square, Pjaca, and visit the Church of St. Nicholas, dating back to the 16th century, with a bell tower soaring 55 meters high. Next, explore the Fortress of St. Cross, famous for its nine defensive towers called “čardaci,” located at the site known as Kasun.
Since Perast has many historic churches, you may also visit St. Anne Church, Our Lady of the Rosary, and the Zmajević Bishopric, which features the most beautiful bell tower in the town. Stroll through the baroque houses and palaces, which radiate unique beauty and reflect the rich history of Perast.
To experience what lies across the bay, we take a boat ride to the island of Our Lady of the Rocks. On the island is a church housing the largest collection of votive tablets in the world – approximately 2,000 of them. Our Lady of the Rocks is considered the protector of sailors. Historically, sailors would make a vow to the Virgin Mary before setting sail, promising to honor her if they returned home safely.
The Perast – Our Lady of the Rocks tour is not just about sightseeing. It’s a journey that enriches the soul and awakens admiration for times gone by.
What to bring: camera, mobile phone, hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket for cooler weather.
Price does not include:
- Boat transfer to the island
- Food and additional drinks
