The Skadar Lake and Virpazar excursion takes you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in this part of Montenegro.
Virpazar is a small village located at the entrance to Skadar Lake National Park. This authentic destination offers the perfect blend of a peaceful atmosphere and rich local tradition, while its proximity to the lake makes it even more attractive. Virpazar is especially appealing to travelers looking for an active holiday in Montenegro, as visitors can enjoy kayaking and walking along scenic hiking trails through untouched nature. The village is also known for its three historic stone bridges, numerous cultural landmarks, and a variety of local experiences where you can enjoy fresh fish, organic food, homemade wine, spring water, and the shade of centuries-old plane trees.
A special highlight of this tour is a boat cruise on Skadar Lake. This relaxing boat trip offers stunning views of vibrant nature, traditional rural architecture, vineyards, monasteries, and picturesque islands scattered across the lake.
Skadar Lake is the largest lake in the Balkans, famous for its rich flora and fauna. It was declared a national park in 1993. The surface area of the lake varies between 370 and 530 km², depending on the season and water levels. Surrounded by mountains and lush vegetation, it offers breathtaking scenery and a wide range of outdoor activities for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The lake is home to around 280 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts.
This adventure begins in Kotor. On the way to Virpazar and Skadar Lake, we will enjoy a panoramic view of the island of Sveti Stefan, one of the most iconic sights on the Montenegrin coast. On the return journey to Kotor, we will also stop in Budva, where you will have plenty of free time to explore the Old Town, visit the historic fortress, stroll along the seaside Slovenska promenade, enjoy local seafood specialties, or browse boutiques and shops.
